You have a small or medium-sized business, and you are looking to generate leads with your website, but you’re not sure how to accomplish this task. You’ve heard people talk about online marketing and SEO, but it is all foreign to you. We can help you with this. You are not going to find the complete guide to local SEO here, but these are tips that can get you started.
Read below to discover five ways to do SEO for your local business, successfully:
Claim Or Create Your Google My Business Page
If you have not verified your Google+ business account, then get this done immediately. Make sure Google Maps has the correct NAP (Name, Address, Phone) information. Fill out your Google My Business profile completely by adding relevant pictures, logo, description, times of operation, and the right category for your business. Be sure to use relevant keywords BUT DO NOT keyword stuff them anywhere on your profile.
On-Page SEO Success Tips
On page SEO is an important ranking factor for any website but especially for a local business site. First of all, targeting the right keywords is crucial to your success. Use a keyword tool to help you decide which keywords and phrases that are relevant to your niche. Don’t just rely on the research tool to find all of your keywords. Think like a customer. If you needed help with something, what keyword phrase would you use to find your business? For example, if your toilet is backed up and water is all over the floor, and it is in the middle of the night, you are probably going to Google:
24hr emergency plumber CITY, STATE.
Once you have selected your keywords, you are going to optimize the following important areas of any web page: Title tag, page description, heading tags, alt tags in images.
Titles and meta descriptions should be simple and act as calls to action to convert to click-throughs. Headings should be like a newspaper headline – don’t get carried away as this is to connect with customers, not astound them with your wit and charm. Use relevant keywords in alt attributions for images. Interlink all web pages through another area on your site.
Create Citations With Consistency
When your NAP (business name, address, phone) is listed on the internet, it is called a citation. The more citations you have throughout the web, the better they perform and, in turn, the better you can expect your website rankings to perform. It is important to get citations from authoritative sources like Yext.com, Brightlocal.com, or Whitespark.ca.
Keep all NAP listings consistent and accurate when building your citations. For example, if you decide to abbreviate the word “Street” to be “St.” then, all of your citations must have “St.”.
Here’s another example, if your business location is in the state of Virginia and you decide to use the abbreviated version of the state, which is VA, then in all of your citations you must have “VA” on all of your NAP listings.
Inconsistency will potentially destroy your visibility in the SERPs and where your location is in Google Maps.
Earn Reviews. The Legal And Natural Way
Reviews are almost as valuable as citations when it pertains to your rankings in the local SERPs, and they are critical in regards to turning visitors into customers. It is important to motivate your clients to post reviews on your Google My Business page, in addition to many other business directories such as Yelp, Foursquare, UrbanSpoon, and Facebook, just to name a few.
As discussed before, you can easily include Google+ reviews on your website also. This could be useful not only as a method to direct traffic to your company but as a means to encourage reviews.
Where possible, teach your team members to make suggestions to customers to leave behind a review on Google+ if they are extremely satisfied with the products or services. It is recommended to steer clear of asking for reviews at virtually every possible moment because this could bring about negative reviews, and Google has guidelines against specialized booths or kiosks that are created exclusively to ask for reviews.
Lastly, NEVER offer or provide monetary payments for reviews on Google+ or anywhere else online.
Although you do not have to completely commit yourself in every one of these channels, it is a smart idea to at a minimum create accounts on not just Google+ but Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, and Instagram.
Online communities could be an extremely efficient method to generate sales. Therefore, it is worth committing yourself totally in any of these social media networks as a strategy to establish that feeling of community.
Whenever it pertains to social networks, graphical updates are recommended. Written text updates are typically a waste of time. The kind of status updates that people share are often entertaining, uplifting, practically helpful and interactive. The intention is to get a discussion going.
